As a webmaster, occassionally you will want to build a web page from an existing text file. In this assignment, we'll take a text document of the amendments (to the Constitution) and turn it into a nicely formatted web page and upload it to your website.
1. If you haven't done so already, create a home page (name the file index.html) on your student website.
At the top of the page, include a welcome message such as "Welcome to Mark's website".
Format it as a "Heading-2" and center it. (Highlight the text and select "heading-2" from the properties panel (HTML). Then click the "center" button.)
2. Create a new (empty) webpage called amendments.html.
3. Add a link to your homepage called "amendments" to point to your new page. The link will allow visitors to your site to find your "amendments" web page.
4. Now we're going to build our amendments page.
a. To get the amendments text, click amendments.txt (this page is simply an unformatted text document).
b. Copy-and-paste the amendments into your new web page (amendments.html). When pasting the text into your document, select "paste special" and choose "text only".
Note: The entire document will appear as a single line -- this is what we want, unformatted text.
You can start a new paragraph by moving the I-beam cursor to the appropriate place and press the <ENTER> key.
If you simply want to move some text down one line, move the I-beam cursor and press <SHIFT><ENTER> (at the same time).
5. Format the page to make it look nice by modifying the "properties" of the various elements in the page.
6. Italicize and center your name and date at the bottom of the page. (Try using Insert -> Date to put the date on your page; check "automatically save".)
7. (optional) Search the web for a nice piece of parchment, download it, and use it as your page background. (Hint: Click the "page properties" button in the properties panel.)
8. Upload your pages to your website and test it by visting your website.
Your student webpage can be found by clicking your assigned number at http://aws.linnbenton.edu/9726F/.
(Unless you save your work to the website, it with be lost when your computer is turned off at the end of class.) The pages "pushed" out to your website can be brought back down for editing later.
** Show me your work when you're done so I can give you credit for the assignment. **
